Find FCI Memphis Releases

To find someone released from Federal Correctional Institution Memphis, use federal records rather than Shelby County jail or Tennessee prison searches. FCI Memphis and its satellite camp are operated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons. The BOP Inmate Locator can show a former federal prisoner's release date and a status such as Released or Not in BOP Custody. Those labels describe BOP custody only. Federal supervision, another agency's custody, or a court obligation can remain after the person leaves FCI Memphis.

FCI Memphis Release Outcomes

FCI Memphis is a medium-security federal correctional institution with an adjacent minimum-security satellite camp. A sentenced federal prisoner may leave BOP custody at the end of the federal prison term or under another lawful federal release path. A person may also transfer to another BOP location before release. The locator's location and status fields help separate those events.

A BOP release is not a Shelby County jail release and is not a TDOC discharge. SCSO did not create the federal prison record. FOIL covers Tennessee felony custody and supervision, not federal sentences. TN SAVIN is also not a replacement for the BOP locator. Start with the operator that held the person.

Important: “Not in BOP Custody” does not prove that every agency released the person or that federal supervision ended.

FCI Memphis BOP Search

The BOP Inmate Locator covers BOP records from 1982 to the present. Search by register, DCDC, FBI, or INS number when one is known. Number searches reduce name collisions. The alternative name search accepts first, middle, and last name with demographic filters such as race, age, and sex.

  1. Open the BOP Inmate Locator and select number or name search.
  2. Enter the federal identifier, or use the full name and useful filters.
  3. Compare name, register number, age, race, and sex.
  4. Read the release date and location or status exactly as displayed.
  5. Use the federal court record when the legal release order or supervision terms matter.

A result may display Released or Not in BOP Custody and a release date. It may show a different institution if the person transferred. Record the date and time checked because BOP warns that release dates can be recalculated. Do not relabel a BOP date as a Shelby County release date.

FCI Memphis Records and Contact

The official BOP facility page places FCI Memphis and the camp at 1101 John A. Denie Road in Memphis. Use the institution's official page for current contact, visiting, and operational instructions. Facility contact does not replace the locator's public historical function, and staff may limit what they can discuss about a named person.

When a locator entry does not answer the question, request the existing federal record through the proper BOP or federal records process. Describe the person by name and register number. Ask for the specific release-related document, date, or location history needed. Privacy rules can limit access to another person's file.

The federal docket is the better source for the judgment, detention ruling, release order, and supervision terms. Use the Western District of Tennessee case when that court handled the matter. A docket order and a BOP custody record answer different questions and can be paired.

FCI Memphis Is Federal

Federal and local custody streams can overlap in Memphis, but their public tools remain separate. The U.S. Marshals Service manages federal prisoners from arrest or remand through acquittal, release, or BOP commitment. It does not offer a former-detainee locator comparable to BOP.

A federal pretrial detainee who was never committed to BOP's sentenced population may be absent from the BOP locator. In that case, the district court docket can show bond, detention, dismissal, acquittal, or release action. PACER is the federal court record route. The relevant U.S. Marshals district may provide appropriate case-specific or records assistance.

BOP custody
Confinement under the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
Federal remand
A court order holding a federal defendant while the case proceeds.
Supervised release
Federal court-ordered oversight after imprisonment.
Transfer
A move between custodians or institutions rather than community release.

After FCI Memphis Release

Federal supervised release may follow imprisonment. It is imposed by the federal court and administered through the federal probation system. A Released locator result does not state that supervision ended. Read the judgment and later docket entries for the term and any court changes.

Another agency can also assume custody. A state warrant, local hold, or immigration action can make the end of BOP custody a transfer rather than community freedom. The BOP result remains accurate within its own scope. The recorded destination, receiving agency, and court record establish the next stage.

For personal confirmation, use an evidence chain: exact BOP match, reported status and date, federal docket, and receiving-agency record when one exists. Avoid combining facts from people with similar names. The register number is the best public key.

FCI Memphis Transfer Context

Shelby County's detention network includes county, municipal, state, and federal operators. The 2025 CTAS assessment describes pressure and transfers in the local jail system. Those local conditions help explain why a person can move through several agencies, but they do not control BOP records.

If a person was once at 201 Poplar and later appears at FCI Memphis, preserve both booking identifiers and the federal register number. A county record may show transfer or release to another sovereign. The BOP record then tracks the federal sentenced custody stage. Neither should be used to erase the other.

An ICE detainer can create another federal handoff. ICE's Online Detainee Locator is a separate system with a short recent-release scope. Do not infer ICE custody from a blank BOP result. Use the agency named in the destination or case record.

FCI Memphis Release Proof

The most durable public confirmation begins with the BOP locator result. Save the register number, release date, and exact status. Then read the court docket for the legal order and supervision term. If the person entered another agency's custody, confirm that agency's intake.

“Released” is a scoped term. It can prove that BOP custody ended while leaving other legal restraint in place. “Not in BOP Custody” is even narrower. State only what the result supports.

The Shelby County release records overview separates county, state, and federal channels. For FCI Memphis, BOP and the federal court remain the controlling sources.
