SCDC Discharge Destinations

The Shelby County Division of Corrections houses post-conviction misdemeanants sentenced up to 11 months and 29 days and felony offenders within its stated county authority, including sentences up to 12 years. A person can complete the local sentence and return to the community, begin or continue probation, move onto parole or mandatory supervision, or transfer into another custody system. The sentence and receiving agency control the result.

SCDC's physical discharge record belongs to the county correctional center. The sentencing court explains the judgment and probation terms. TDOC calculates key release eligibility and expiration information for qualifying felony sentences, including some felony offenders held in a local workhouse for one year or more. FOIL can remain relevant even though the person served time at Mullins Station Road.

Confirm an SCDC Discharge

Start with the official SCDC Inmate Records page. It supplies the county records contact, release times, clothing window, bus-pass option, and operational credit notes. For a named person, direct contact is more reliable than inferring discharge from an online status.

1. Call SCDC inmate records with the full name and known booking or sentence identifiers.
2. Ask for the actual discharge date, time, type, and any receiving or supervising agency.
3. Read the sentencing-court docket and judgment for the legal basis.
4. For a qualifying felony sentence, search TDOC FOIL by TDOC ID, SID, or name.
5. If details conflict, request the existing SCDC discharge entry and the TDOC computation separately.

The Shelby County released-inmate lookup provides the wider court, FOIL, VINE, and records-request chain. A FOIL status such as Parole, Probation, or Inactive adds state context, but the SCDC record remains the source for the physical local exit.

Note: A person can leave SCDC while a state sentence or community-supervision duty remains active.

SCDC Records and Contact

The inmate-record office is the direct source for a county correctional discharge. The general Corrections number can route broader questions, while the sentencing clerk owns the judgment. The office should be asked for existing discharge data rather than a new legal interpretation.

A focused request should identify the person and sentence, then seek the discharge or release entry, actual timestamp, release type, and receiving agency if transferred. When TDOC controls felony computation, request that state record separately. SCDC should not be asked to explain a state calculation it did not create.

The county facility contains several operational components, including the main compound, Adult Offender Center, and N-Building/West Tennessee Regional Re-entry Center. Those names do not create separate public discharge databases.

SCDC Discharge Record Fields

The county discharge entry and the state sentence record serve different purposes. SCDC can establish when its custody ended. FOIL can show TDOC supervision and sentence fields. The sentencing court supplies the judgment that gave both agencies authority.

FOIL does not use a field called projected release date. Its Release Eligibility Date is the earliest parole-consideration point for an eligible sentence, not a promised exit. Sentence End Date is a separate field. Later court documents, credits, losses, detainers, and Board action can change the record.

Note: Keep eligibility, sentence expiration, physical discharge, and final supervision discharge as four distinct events.

SCDC Daily Discharge Times

SCDC publishes exact operating times for routine discharge: 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, 2:45 p.m. Saturday, and 1:45 p.m. Sunday. This is a rare local level of detail. It is a release-day schedule, not a rolling recent-release list and not proof that any named resident will leave on a particular date.

A court order, sentence calculation, hold, or transfer can change the real outcome. Confirm the date with inmate records before relying on the clock. Weekend status has another local wrinkle: SCDC says a weekender can remain Active as long as the booking remains open even while physically away between reporting periods. Active status is therefore not always continuous presence.

SCDC Sentenced-Custody Role

SCDC is not another wing of 201 Poplar. It is a county correctional operation for sentenced people. The official page describes misdemeanor custody up to 11 months and 29 days and felony custody up to 12 years within county authority. That post-conviction mission changes both the search route and the meaning of release.

The court judgment matters more here than a pretrial bond screen. For a short misdemeanor sentence, SCDC and the court own the key record. For a qualifying felony sentence, TDOC may calculate eligibility and expiration even while the person is housed locally. State FOIL status may then remain visible after physical departure from Mullins Station Road.

SCDC Credits and Release Status

SCDC states that felons receive monthly credits and that misdemeanants serve 50 percent unless the judge specifies otherwise. Treat that as the county facility's operational description, not a universal formula. The judgment, offense, offense date, current statute, and responsible calculating agency control a named person's case.

For qualifying state felony terms, Tennessee's sentence-reduction framework permits documented credits under statutory conditions. Credits may be earned, withheld, or lost. Certain credits can affect eligibility without changing sentence expiration. Local and state credit systems cannot simply be stacked. Ask TDOC for its computation when FOIL dates need explanation.

A detainer, pending matter, consecutive case, changed credit, missing sentencing paper, parole decision, or unapproved release plan can affect timing. Published SCDC exit times do not override any of those legal or record-based limits.

Note: Never estimate an individual SCDC discharge by applying a percentage to the sentence.

SCDC Detainers and Transfers

A scheduled SCDC discharge can be interrupted by a hold or lead directly to another agency. No current ICE detention facility in Shelby County was found in the dated sweep, yet an immigration detainer can still lead to an ICE pickup. The county release event would then mark the end of SCDC custody, not freedom from all confinement.

Ask inmate records to identify the destination or receiving agency. If ICE is named, search the ICE Online Detainee Locator promptly because qualifying released-from-ICE records remain in its public scope for only 60 days. If TDOC is named, use FOIL and TDOC records. The receiving source should confirm the next stage.

Transfer pressure elsewhere in Shelby's system reinforces the need for destination data. A blank local status cannot supply it.

SCDC Release-Day Support

SCDC allows a resident to purchase a bus pass while incarcerated. The pass may be used on release day or before its expiration and lasts until midnight once activated. This is a verified SCDC option. It should not be promised for someone leaving the Main Jail or another facility.

Families may also bring discharge clothing for a person scheduled to leave within 48 hours. SCDC accepts those clothes at N-Building from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on weekdays. Confirm the scheduled release with inmate records before making the trip, since clothing acceptance is not itself a guarantee of discharge.

These practical facts distinguish SCDC from the pretrial jail. They help with release planning but do not replace the judgment, computation, or recorded discharge event.

Verify the SCDC Discharge

Build the answer from the responsible sources. SCDC records the local physical discharge. The court states the sentence and probation order. TDOC records qualifying felony calculation and supervision. A receiving agency records any later custody.

Keep the full name, county identifier, case number, judgment, discharge timestamp, release type, and destination. Compare FOIL's exact labels without converting eligibility into a promised exit. A complete SCDC discharge finding should say whether the person entered the community, supervision, or another agency's custody.
